Then she gave us a math challenge, be it written or mental that was not graded. This was a great way for her to start the class because the stories relaxed us (and made us forget about the crazy drama of HS) while the math challenge got us started thinking about math.bcrimingerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01472349792962937239noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467202639598238063.post-64033590995506078552009-02-28T21:05:00.000-06:002009-02-28T21:05:00.000-06:00Thanks for the great suggestions! These sound great =)miss.calcul8https://www.blogger.com/profile/02014623484245570719noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467202639598238063.post-89861197322704168282009-02-26T12:40:00.000-06:002009-02-26T12:40:00.000-06:00Consider: Sideways stories from Wayside school, W...Consider:

Sideways stories from Wayside school, Wayside school is falling down and Wayside school gets a little stranger. They're funny, short, cheap and the chapters are a good length for reading aloud. Plus, you can get Sideways Arithmetic from Wayside School which has fun, interesting, challenging math problems. They're all by Louis Sachar.
Also, consider the classic The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster which has some great math jokes.
The Sir Cumference series is also great.
Finally(I'll quit soon, I promise) Math and Literature by Jennifer Bay-Williams has some awesome ideas for mixing literature and math.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
