Wanted to add my twist to the purple pen bell ringer. I decided to get thumbs up self-inking stamps to mark when students are right and then I can use the stamp upside down if they need to "learn from their mistake" and keep working. You can check it out on my BRAND NEW BLOG if you want summathmadness.wordpress.com (can you tell I'm excited?) I wish I would have started reading blogs a few weeks earlier and been able to take part in the new blogger initiative - but better late than never I guess. Thanks for sharing your ideas. I have always used bell work to review the previous lesson, but like the idea of taking some time to develop pre-requisite skills that might be lacking. I will have to think about that. I do think some will be encouraged to ask you to do all the problems, therefore wasting a lot of class time, so I will not be allowing students to use their homework, for what it's worth.

I've used cards for misbehavior, and have been pleased (although I need to be more consistent). If you see stress from someone who got a card, you can quietly let them know it's a good thing.

How does using SBG preclude unit tests? As long as you're grading each standard separately on the tests, I don't think it hurts to mix it up. For your sanity, you can group things that belong to each standard together on the unit test, or you can just write the standard next to/below the problem number. Like it or not, kids will see mixed-standard questions on standardized tests anyway, and then you can honestly answer that you've been preparing students for whatever tests they're required to take without using up class time. Just a thought.Pattihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03669674796404246494noreply@blogger.com
